Candle Care Guide

Caring for your Norshire Candle

Our handmade scented candles are crafted with love to bring you hours of beautiful fragrance and a calming glow. Follow these simple tips to keep your candle looking and burning its best, helping you enjoy its quality for longer.

How to Burn Your Candle

  • Always light your candle in a well-ventilated room, away from any drafts. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, or sooting.
  • Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Prolonged burning can cause the wick to move or lean.
  • For our 30cl glass candles, we recommend burning for 1.5 to 2 hours per session. Burning for less than this may cause tunnelling — where wax builds up around the edges and doesn't burn evenly.
  • Stop burning your candle when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom. This helps prevent overheating and protects the vessel and your surfaces.

    Caring for Your Wick

    • Always trim the wick to 5mm before each burn. This helps to prevent excess smoke, soot, and a flickering or uneven flame.
    • Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings and match ends. Debris in the wax can act like a second wick and cause your candle to burn faster than intended.
    • After extinguishing the flame (ideally with a snuffer), gently re-centre and straighten the wick while the wax is still soft. If the wick shifts too close to the edge, blow out the flame and adjust before relighting to avoid glass cracking.

    Storing Your Candle

    • When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Replace the lid or place it back in its original box to keep the wax free from dust.
    • Dust can affect how your candle burns and how it smells, so keeping it covered is best.
    • While our candles have a long shelf life, storing them for too long may dull the fragrance. For the best experience, enjoy your candle within a reasonable time of purchase.
    • If you notice condensation on the surface of the wax, it may have been stored in a damp or humid space. Gently wipe it away with a paper towel before lighting.

    A Little Note About Wax

Sometimes when candles cool after being poured, the wax may slightly pull away from the sides of the glass. This can look like tiny air bubbles — but don't worry! It’s completely normal. The gap is very small, but the glass can magnify the effect. Once your candle is lit and the glass begins to warm, these marks usually disappear.
